Makeup for Photo Shoots— Enhancing Your Models Beauty

So you have a photo shoot you’re planning for this week? You’ve got your models, you have a vision for the shoot but you’re still stuck with which looks would suit with the right model. Never fear, New Gen Artistry is here! Creating the perfect colour combination for a specific colour tone is just as important as matching the correct foundation.

Typically lighter skin tones have a cooler undertone which is perfect to play with. Neutral colour tones paired with the perfect highlight and blush can bring out the model’s skin tone and as a result, has a certain glow in photos.

For medium skin tones, the skin tone is typically warmer with a golden under tone. Use bronzer to bring out the dimension in the model’s face and go very light with blush. In our recent shoot, we paired a champagne lid with a vibrant red gloss lip to have a beautiful contrast of neutral and vibrant tones.

Darker skin tones have a very warm under tone so you’re able to bring a very dramatic element to your looks. Dark skin tones are fairly versatile so we took advantage of that in our shoot. With one of our models we paired a smokey eye with a vibrant pink lip, while another model wore the same champagne lid as our medium skin tone model, but paired with a vibrant red lip.

Play with various colours and see how they react with your model’s skin tone! Makeup is all about enhancing the individuals beauty, so ask your models what looks they usually do for special occasions and take that into consideration. For example, if your model is fairly shy and dabbles in darker toned makeup, putting them in vibrant neon colours may affect their confidence in a negative way and as a result, this will show in the photographer’s shots. Running your models through each look and making sure they’re comfortable is definitely beneficial for both parties.
